Aurora sits on the fourth floor of a quiet building off the garden, and it earns its name every morning: the sun comes up over the rooftops and fills the living room before the city is properly awake. It's a calm, uncluttered home — pale oak, white plaster, linen the colour of unbleached paper, and one good painting that the owner won't part with.
There's a small varanda off the bedroom, just wide enough for a coffee and a chair, looking out over terracotta roofs toward the river. Inside, everything is where your hand expects it. It's the kind of place that makes you slow down — and, for the month or two you're here, feel a little more like the person you mean to be.
Open-plan living and kitchen, a separate bedroom, and a walk-out varanda. Sleeps two.
Lisbon at its most elegant: leafy, boutique-lined, quietly creative. Start mornings at a local pastelaria; the garden's Saturday biological market is the best in the city. For dinner, the small plates two streets down are our favourite — book ahead. The walk down to Bairro Alto and the river is ten minutes, all of it downhill and beautiful.
